How to stay safe around commercial vehicles

Commercial trucks and passenger vehicles routinely share the road in Pennsylvania and most other states. While truck drivers must remember to drive in a safe manner, they say that passenger drivers need to do the same. A contest was held by Teletrac Navman to solicit safety tips from truck drivers that could help passenger vehicle drivers. One of those tips was to make lane changes in a timely manner.

Doing so means spending less time in a large truck's blind spot, which can reduce the chances of an accident. Passenger vehicle drivers are also encouraged to refrain from driving into gaps between two commercial vehicles. The larger vehicles are giving each other space in the event that one has to brake suddenly or otherwise take evasive action. Finally, those who drive a passenger vehicle should watch their speed and be on the lookout for changing conditions.

Truck drivers themselves tend to operate their vehicles differently depending on where they happen to be. For instance, they were more likely to drive at an excessively high rate of speed in North and South Dakota, according to Verizon Connect. North and South Dakota were also rated among the 10 most dangerous states for commercial vehicle drivers. New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire were rated among the safest according to Verizon Connect data.

People who have been hurt in truck accidents may want to speak with an attorney as soon as possible. Doing so may help them learn more about their rights, how to prove negligence occurred and the types of compensation to which they may be entitled. In many personal injury cases, victims will be reimbursed for medical expenses and lost wages. Multiple parties may be liable for damages in a given case.
