Victim dies 1 week after serious crash in Fayette County

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2020 | Car Accidents

One thing that people should remember about car crashes is that they’re not always fatal right away. If a victim is badly injured, they may survive for many days or even weeks following the crash before they pass away.

This is common when brain injuries or spinal cord injuries leave the victim in poor condition, but there can be many reasons why they pass away either expectedly or unexpectedly.

When a driver has caused a fatal crash due to negligence or reckless behavior, they may end up facing charges. The family of the victim may also choose to seek a wrongful death claim.

Take for example a case out of Fayette County. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner reported that the passenger who was involved in a car crash recently died after spending a week in the hospital. The man was a passenger in a vehicle when the driver went off the road and hit a cement embankment. Witnesses stated that the vehicle had rolled as well.

Both the driver (27) and the passenger (49) were taken to the hospital for their serious injuries. The man who passed died of blunt force trauma to the trunk of his body and the head, the medical examiner explained. As of now, the driver is alive, though his condition has not been reported.

Did you know that hitting a fixed object is one of the most common kinds of crashes?

Hitting a fixed object causes around 33% of Pennsylvania’s traffic fatalities. If you lose a loved one or are hurt in a crash like this, remember that you may have the opportunity to file a claim against the driver who caused the crash.
