What should you do about a dangerous trucker?

On Behalf of | Jun 2, 2020 | Car Accidents

The highways in and around Pittsburgh are filled with commercial trucks. It doesn’t matter if you’re zipping down I-79 or sitting in traffic on the parkway, you’re sure to have concerns about your safety.

Here are some of the many things you should do if you spot a dangerous trucker and feel that your safety is at risk:

  • Don’t take matters into your own hands: If you’re frustrated with the trucker, there’s a good chance you’ll be tempted to scream at them or take another type of action in hopes that they’ll stop. This is more likely to anger them, so you should keep to yourself.
  • Call 911: If you’re concerned about your safety, as well as that of other drivers, call 911 to report the trucker and ask for police to visit the scene.
  • Leave more space between your vehicles: A dangerous trucker has the potential to cause a serious accident. By keeping as much space as possible between your vehicles, you reduce the risk of being part of an accident.

While the majority of commercial truckers are safe and courteous to other drivers, this doesn’t hold true for all of them. There will always be truckers who violate the law and drive in an aggressive manner.

If you’re injured in a car-truck accident, don’t confront the trucker. Move to safety, call 911 and do your best to remain calm until help arrives.

After you receive treatment, you can review your insurance policy, file a claim and look into all your options for holding the negligent trucker responsible for their actions.
